Humpy’s out as rift simmers

humpy wheeler said wednesday that his retirement as president and general manager of lowe’s motor speedway and as president and chief operating constable of speedway motorsports inc. did not come entirely on his own terms.

bruton smith, the track’s owner and the chairman of smi, did not turn to wheeler’s retirement announcement in the media center.

in a call up check out later, smith said he learned up to date tuesday that wheeler planned to make the announcement this week instead of next wednesday, as they had discussed.

“i’ve got a few years communistic and i am going to enjoy them,” he said.

wheeler said he would be unsheltered to some place with nascar.
